Piano Studio Policies

My piano parents should take the time to read over the studio policies. When the studio is running smoothly that means my time, energy and attention are focused on teaching your children.

RegistrationEach year current students are given the opportunity to re-register for Fall lessons and reserve a lesson time with a non-refundable $40 per family registration fee and completed form. Re-registration for current students is due Saturday, May 20, 2017.

New families may contact me by email to schedule a complimentary consultation. I value the opportunity to meet with potential students to discuss questions that you and your child may have concerning piano lessons. If you choose to study with me, you may reserve a time in my teaching schedule with a non-refundable registration fee of $40. When you register for lessons you are making a commitment for the entire school year and you are agreeing to the following Studio Policies:

PianoPiano & Metronome

All students will need to have a piano at home for daily practicing. I recommend a tuned acoustic piano, however a digital piano with 88 “touch sensitive” keys plus proper foot pedals is acceptable for early levels. All students will need a metronome or a metronome app.

TuitionTuition is based upon enrollment for 34 weeks of private instruction (September - June). The annual tuition fee for 2017/2018 is $1550 for weekly 45-minute lessons.

Tuition will be due Thursday, August 31, 2017. You may choose to pay in 2, 4 or 10 equal installments. Post-dated cheques should be dated for the 1st of the month and made payable to “Anne Crosby Gaudet”.

Practice ExpectationsPractice Expectations

Students need to prepare for each lesson by making progress on all parts of the weekly assignment. This requires a commitment to practicing the piano at home each day. Practice times will vary throughout the year depending on our goals and projects. Parents should ensure that children practice at least 5 days each week, as consistency is the key to long-term success.

You can help by making sure your children fill in their practice log each week on the assingment sheet.

Most children can achieve positive results as follows:

At the Studio

At the StudioI expect students to arrive on time with their books each week. Students are welcome to come in without ringing the bell, but should take care when coming and going to not let the cats go outside. Please remind your children to develop the habit of clipping nails and washing hands before lesson time. Students may wait in the hall briefly before or after lessons, but this is not an appropriate waiting area for extended periods of time. When two children in the same family take private lessons, I request that parents drop off only one child at a time. Parents should always watch to see that children are safely inside the door before driving away.

Lesson Cancellations

My preference is to maintain consistent instruction with your children to keep progress and motivation on track. However, I run my studio at full capacity so if a lesson is cancelled, rescheduling is not always possible. These are my policies regarding lesson cancellations:

Ending Lessons

All students stop taking lessons at some point. Ideally, this decision is made thoughtfully with plenty of discussion between the teacher, parent and student so we can complete the year with a positive sense of closure. If a situation arises in which a family must discontinue lessons mid-year (for example: moving), I require written notice from the parent and one month of paid notice. When you register for lessons, please be prepared to make the commitment from September through June as it can be difficult to fill your reserved lesson time mid-year. If there is a problem at any time, please talk to me so I can help make necessary changes. The journey of studying music is full of ups and downs, I have navigated this path many times. Please keep me in the conversation and let's enjoy the journey from beginning to end.

Multi-mediaI occasionally take photographs or video of students during lessons and performances for use in the studio scrapbook, advertising materials, lesson demonstration and studio owned websites. My studio celebrates all that technology and multi-media have to offer, keeping piano lessons relevant and engaging for your children. When you register for lessons you will have the opportunity to select your permission preferences.
